Lesbian Visibility Week: Why It Matters, What You Didn’t Know, and How We Celebrate Queer Pleasure Loudly

2025년 4월 21일
lesbian visibility week

Lesbian Visibility Week isn’t just a date on the calendar—it’s a powerful reminder that queer women, femmes, and sapphic identities deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated in all their messy, beautiful, complex brilliance.

What Is Lesbian Visibility Week?

Every April, we honor Lesbian Visibility Week—a time not only to uplift and celebrate lesbians around the world, but also to shine a light on the stories that often go untold. While many queer narratives have fought for space in mainstream culture, lesbian history has frequently been left in the margins. But not this week. This is our moment.

A Legacy of Strength, Hidden in Plain Sight

Did you know that one of the first documented lesbian couples in American history, Sarah Ponsonby and Eleanor Butler—aka the "Ladies of Llangollen"—lived together in 18th-century Ireland and were celebrated as eccentric intellectuals, but their romantic relationship was quietly ignored by society? Their story is rarely taught in schools, yet their defiance of traditional norms and lifelong commitment is a timeless emblem of queer love.

Or consider Mabel Hampton, a Black lesbian activist who was a dancer during the Harlem Renaissance and later became a central figure in the lesbian rights movement in New York City. Her extensive oral history interviews preserved by the Lesbian Herstory Archives remind us how lesbian identity intersects with race, art, and activism in powerful, revolutionary ways.

Why Visibility Still Matters

Lesbian Visibility Week is about celebrating identity—but it’s also about fighting invisibility. In our everyday lives, from the boardroom to the bedroom, lesbians still navigate erasure, tokenism, and misunderstanding. Visibility isn’t just about being seen—it’s about being recognized, respected, and represented on our own terms.

Pleasure is Political

Queer pleasure is part of visibility. That’s why Crassie is proud to offer inclusive, body-safe, high-quality lesbian sex toys designed by and for queers. Our strap on and harness are crafted with love and intention, not just for performance but for connection, exploration, and joy.

Strap On Harness Tip of the Week: How to Ride the Wave

Want to make your strap on for beginners (or 50th) strap on harness session a total win? Here’s a quick pro tip:

Foreplay is not optional. Use your hands or mouth to get her turned on first.

If she's in doggie style, keep one hand on her hip and use the other to rub her clit.

If she's on her back, fold her knees to her chest. Not only does this angle hit all the right spots, but you get a front-row seat to the strap on on action (hot).

It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being present. Let her body guide you.

Celebrate Lesbian Visibility Week with Crassie

To mark this important week, we’re offering up to 50% off on our full range of lesbian sex toys—from dual density dildos to harnesses strap on kit that feel like a second skin. It's our way of saying thank you, and keep going.
